So, I am very glad to announce that I finally landed my dream job!!!!!!!!

After a tedious process that has lasted more than a year ,I had really given up hope, I got the call that I have gotten a job with my state as a disability determination specialist. I will be approving and disapproving applications for disability benefits for the state, I know that sounds boring but its what I went to school for.

The best thing about it is that its a state job, almost impossible to get fired from, great benefits, lots of off time-13 holidays, and it is under the department of education so I will get all of those wonderful teacher benefits as well, so yeah! And their office is in an area I have always wanted to live.

Oh and the salary is nothing to sneeze at either. I can be making 52k in 5 years.

The bad news is that they don't pay you during the first month, because if they are going to fire you that's when they do it, and I am going to have to move back in with my folks for a while.

What that means to you guys is that my parents live on a lake in the woods and I can't get anything but dial up there, so I will be scarce, and the two hour commute will make me too tired to do anything but sleep and work anyway.

I am very excited!

PS- Just in case anyone was interested my doctor decide that I have Lupus and that that was what was causing the swelling in my brain that I was talking about. the treatment is still steroids so I am not too worried about that anymore. I can deal with that as long as I keep it under control.

So that's my news. I will probably wait till the last minute to move back in with my folks, because I don't look forward to it, so that would be the 14th of June it seems as my job starts the 16th.

I am very happy because I was beginning to feel that my very expensive degree was worthless. But it seems to be redeaming itself.

Instead of a 2 hr commute, have ya thought to check for rooms to rent near your new job on Craigslist? I rented my spare bedroom twice this year to normal people who didn't want a long term lease.

Am a PT paralegal who loved to work for the state. I get the scraps that fall from the well provided for lawyer's table... :x :( Am actively networking, joining professional associations, etc.

I've never heard of craiglist before, but I just checked it out--it might work. My original idea was to save money, we don't get paid the first month. But I am going to look into this, there are two colleges nearby and maybe students wanting to sublease.

Hey, congratulations! And I'm glad the docs helped get things under control, too. My husband works for the state, and you are definitely right about the benefits, vacations, etc.

If you have room, you can have a temporary renter or move in w/other if they're not weird.
