I saw the post on the main page. I know it's probably not something you want to talk about right now, but I am very sorry for your loss, Fritz. I know from all my years on this board that you love your family more than anything. Take care of yourself, take care of each other.

It's only been a week...it's still very raw. We won't have the memorial until next week--Mom wanted to be cremated for reasons she didn't want to discuss with us, and didn't want a funeral...but funerals aren't really for the dead, anyway--they're for the people left behind.

I know I will want to talk about this more, but not this second. But I guess I felt like I needed to get it out there somehow...a bit of explanation why I haven't been on as much lately.

It's been tough, no doubt about it. At least ten times a day I stop myself when I'm starting to go "I need to tell Mom about this..."

I looked at the two stories I have on my agenda earlier today. Yeah, not ready to do anything about those yet...I'd really hoped to have both (chapters of both "Love Songs" and "Coda and Terchi's Extreme Adventure") done by the end of the year, but...probably not gonna happen now.

It's been a rough time of it the last few weeks, between Mom passing and the horrifying election results...

But this evening, we finally held the memorial for her. Lots of happy memories shared, lots of catching up to friends and relatives that, in a bittersweet irony, we only seem to see anymore when someone dies. At least we agree we need to come up with a better reason to see each other.

Yes, my family refers to funerals as family reunions... Lots of older chain smokers leads to lots of reunions.

I can't imagine how hard it is to suddenly not have a mom around. I dread the say I do. I hope you can reconnect with some others who loved her. It helps to talk to others who feel the same.
