I've seen it discussed at GBI, and I've talked about it with some of your privately, but I was just wondering... Where the hell did the whole "is slimer evil?" discussion come from?

To me, I've always compared his relationship to the GB's as a sort of "The dog that befriended the dog catchers" and then by the time the "game era" rolls around, they've actually re-captured him and began training him to not destroy so much stuff so he can be sort of like a firehouse dog. Of course there's also the RGB version of Slimer, which, the one I think we all PREFER is not the Jar Jar binks-ish fifth Ghostbusters BULLSHIT version... but the "team mascot" version of him that makes more sense. NEITHER one made him out to be EVIL though.

Either the game/movie version or the RGB version, doesnt matter really, because by modern day, he's probably like one of those undisciplined dogs that begs for food from the table all the time and if you arent watching, will snatch it right off your plate. But also doesnt run wild around town.

I thought this was a strange fit for the General (non-GB) board, so I moved it. I really could have fit in the Movie or Animation boards just as easily, but picked Video Games because you did mention the games and it isn't as full

I'm not sure where the "Slimer is evi!" thing came from either. I remember some of the previews of the Slimer stage of the video game had people going "All right! Slimer is evil again!"

Some of it probably has to do with reaction to Action Hero Slimer from the post-JMS era, or from a faction of movie snobs who look down their noses at anything that comes from the cartoons.

JMS's preferred use of Slimer is definitely the best: a hungry pet who annoys Venkman, and best used in small doses.

Again though, Slimer wasnt evil in the MOVIES either. So... idk how any of the "movie snobs" would make that argument.

More like gluttony. Greed is money and possessions, he just wants food.
