Title says it all. --- “Janine...Do you still find me...attractive?” The question was thrown out of nowhere, between pants of exertion. “You...picked a hell of a time to...ask that...” She gasped back. “It felt...Like the right time...” His arms were firmly around her waist. “...You’re kidding me, right?” She bit back a sound in her throat. “I never...kid...Hff.” He gave a sharp heave Janine could feel all the way down to her toes. “It’s just...” He paused, catching his breath for a moment. Janine cringed inwardly, anticipating more. “I’m getting older...Flabbier...Greying out...You know.” “None of that really matters to me,” she muttered into his neck. “Oh. Good. That’s good.” He was getting tired by this point, but she couldn’t let him stop there. “Just a little more,” she encouraged. “Yes, yes, I know...” He paused, taking a deep breath and shoving them over the precipice. Her feet touched the ground and lights flashed before her eyes, nearly blinding her. She was unable to contain her whimper this time. They collapsed on the grass, exhausted, and lay there breathing for a time. “That was a big hill,” he observed. “Yeah...” “Are you okay?” She caught his eye with a flat stare. “Okay, yes, I did just carry you up.” He held up his hands, gesturing at the sky. “Gophers really shouldn’t be living here, this is hardly a good territory for them.” “Very romantic.” “Oh yes. Very. ...So you do still find me attractive?” “Oh, you’re a paragon of sex. An Adonis. Why, I think I’m going to faint right now.” “Oh, ha ha.” He sat up. “Back to the car?” “I would think so, yeah.” “I’m sorry this didn’t go as planned,” he said softly as he hefted her back into his arms. Really he didn’t need to actually carry her, but she wasn’t going to complain much about it. “Ah forget about it. Help me into a nice warm bath back home and I’ll consider it all forgiven.” She grinned at him. |
