I did wonder about putting an adjective in that subject line; maybe 'old' or 'original', or something more subjective (plus article) like 'Those awful'. But then I thought, if anybody was going to get their hopes up that this might about some new and better figures, it would be me.
Of course, 'new' and 'better' are
not synonymous, neither in any dictionary nor in my opinion. But in this case, it's hard to imagine what could be worse.
Thank you, of course, you to the people responsible for the images in this post (for however long they may stay!).
In case it wasn't obvious, I don't like these figures. I doubt very much that anybody does, and I've never bothered posting about them before because I thought it's probably all been said, for all that I missed it. Yes, it's all subjective, but maybe what I missed is at least some people loving them. However, the best I can imagine anybody saying is that they might be okay if they were correctly coloured, and/or you could complete the collection with Garrett. Myself, I
never liked these figures, not even really when I bought them in 1998. I only
wanted to like them. When Jake and I relocated a couple of years ago, to a place with a whole room for the stuff like this we wanted to keep, those action figures didn't make the cut.
Up until yesterday, that would have been the entirety of my post, which is why I never made it before now. It's just a bunch of hate, which I try to avoid these days. But when Jake and I were reminiscing last night, we were able to fill a few gaps in each other's memories (mostly mine), and now I have an urge to get it all out.
I can remember wanting to like the figures (buying action figures to express one's love for a show was something I'd seen from the cradle... I honestly kind of thought you had to), but I cannot remember a time when I knew why the hell I had bought that revolting giant Slimer. There's actually a decent scale model of him with the Kylie figure, for goodness' sake!
Jake (this post assumes readers know exactly who he is!) told me yesterday that we (well, I) had got a free CD of the original Ray Parker Jr version of the
Ghostbusters theme with three EGB action figures. For some reason, I have no memory of this. I remembered buying the Eduardo and Roland figures in a small, local-ish shop that didn't do things like that; the CD, I am told, came from Toys R Us, where Jake remembers me getting Kylie, Egon and that awful Slimer. It did happen sometimes that we couldn't find what we wanted in the smaller toy shops, and our mum kindly took us out of her way to Toys R Us in the neighbouring big town to make up the deficit. Having already bought two figures, I needed Slimer for the free CD. Only it wasn't exactly free, as I paid the price of an extra toy I didn't want, and I don't even remember the free gift now. In hindsight, probably the wrong decision!
